Job Description

 

  • Responsible for safe operation of boat and supervision of boat crew
  • Must be willing to perform first aid and CPR on other team members as required. Must know how to respond in case of an emergency.
  • Regularly communicate via 2-way radio with Team Members during operations. 
  • Must communicate regularly with the Supervisors, Managers and the Customer
  • Responsible for barge movements and fleeting with the Team Members
  • Must be able to adhere to and comply with company policies, United States Coast Guard and environmental regulations.
  • Demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.
  • Follow written and verbal directions to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
  • Read, write, and communicate in English & understand basic math.
  • Learn from directions, observations, and mistakes and apply procedures using good judgment.
  • Working knowledge of Watco Safety and Operating principles
  • Work independently or as part of a team and interact appropriately with others.
  • Coordinates the activities with other boat crews.
  • Receives oral or written instructions from Supervisors indicating which barges are to be moved.
  • Notifies Supervisors and teammates before moves using radio, verbal and possible hand signals.
  • At all times remain professional when addressing customer with set start and stop times.
  • When moves are required, follow the SOP for proper procedures.
  • Must coordinate activities through Supervisor regarding customer needs.
  • Keep constant eye or radio contact on deckhands at all times while they are involved in fleet work.
  • Notify Supervisor of incoming barges and keep fleet maintained according to river levels.
  • Be willing to do minor maintenance and oversee the housekeeping of the boat.
  • Keep logs and paper work current as required by the Coast Guard.
  • Must have or the ability to obtain a TWIC card.
  • Must be able to follow rules set forth by North American Stainless.
  • Responsible for safely transporting chemical barges to DOW
  • Must be willing to fill in during vacation time for other pilots.
  • The on duty pilot is ultimately responsible for the condition of the fleet so a Dual Verification of the deckhands work is required to fulfill this position.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Must have a Master Towing Vessel License.
  • Ability to pass training and required testing.
  • Must be available to work a rotating shift as well as be prepared to work in all types of weather.
