Job Summary

The Director of Logistics Finance Services will provide financial and accounting support and leadership to the non-asset based Watco Logistics division of Watco Companies.

The Director of Logistics Finance Services will be responsible for annual divisional financial planning, forecasting, month-end financial close assistance and oversight of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and assisting in decisions regarding extending Client credit.  This role will provide oversight of operational accounting teams and provide financial planning and analysis to support broader strategic initiatives with continuous process improvement.  Primary relationship responsibilities will include working with internal corporate accounting teams, operations leaders, external Clients, and 3rd party vendors.  The Director of Logistics Finance Services position represents a leadership role within the Watco Logistics division. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as primary liaison between Watco Logistics teams and internal Watco corporate accounting teams in managing the month-end financial close process, including profit center accruals and allocations in a timely manner.
• Oversee annual financial planning and budgeting process.
• Provide real-time financial analysis on operating and support metrics.
• Assist in acquisition related financial analysis and operational accounting integration.
• Approve Client crediting decisions.
• Provide oversight and support to Accounts Receivable team to ensure clients are invoiced accurately and timely and Accounts Payable team to ensure that 3rd party motor carrier and supplier invoices are audited and approved for payment in an efficient and timely manner.
• Assist in the selection and implementation of 3rd party freight audit and payment solutions.
• Identify operational accounting risk areas, determine root causes, and develop and improve procedures to minimize future risk.
• Proficient understanding of financial and accounting terminology and best practices.
• Excellent interpersonal skills: strong written communication skills, ability to communicate clearly and effectively across various levels in the organization.
• Direct managerial responsibilities over the AR and AP team leaders.
• Perform all other duties as assigned and required.
• Travel as necessary or assigned (<5%). 

Qualifications

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with extensive team member and supplier contact with frequent interruptions. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a team member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. 

•  Working knowledge of accounting principles and accounting functions related with the 3rd party transportation industry including Accounts Payable and/or Accounts Receivable.
•  Lead, develop, train and motivate AR and AP teams.
•  Apply knowledge of organizational skills, effective communication, conflict resolution, project implementation, personal management, multi-tasking and time management skills
•  Familiarity with third party accounting software systems.
•  Highly analytical and proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
•  Ability to provide oral and written reports, business correspondence, and effective presentation of information to customers, team members, and managers
•  Capable of working independently and making decisions with limited supervision.
•  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
•  Ability to travel up to 5% of the time as required for remote team management, on-site training, or other as needed.
•  7-10 years of related financial or accounting experience in the transportation brokerage or supply chain industry is recommended.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
