Job Summary

The Fleet Manager is responsible for providing operational support through the coordination of the quality, service, and administrative functions in the leasing and maintenance of trailers, containers and chassis. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the dispatch of transportation equipment is in accordance with the dispatch plan, minimizes costs, and ensures service integrity. It is essential for the Fleet Manager to work closely with customer service, sales, and hub management to ensure successful customer-facing results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage the relationship with all lease trailer providers
• Supervise a network of service providers to maintain the leased trailers
• Manage leasing process including trailer negotiations, trailer equipment, and trailer utilization
• Monitor facility reporting metrics related to service, safety, cost, and quality
• Address potential performance issues
• Review inaccuracies in generated reports with Watco team and third-party service providers, and correct as appropriate
• Communicate with the operational floor on availability, maintenance and utilization
• Investigate and communicate customer service complaints
• Report schedule delays, accidents, and equipment failures and implement contingency plans
• Manage relationships with vendors including ensuring the company’s compliance with the applicable agreement
• Maintain compliance with company policies, federal, state, and local regulations
• Communicate and discuss contractual changes and issues with vendors
• Effectively implement field operational processes
• Ability to effectively provide team members instruction on process and practice
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with extensive team member and supplier contact with frequent interruptions. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a team member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

• Two (2) years operational experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience recommended 
• Administrative support or customer service experience recommended
• Time management and organizational skills preferred in handling various tasks and changing priorities, while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy to achieve daily assignments and goals
• Verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with various audiences
• Use basic computer skills – Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and data entry
• Read, write, and communicate in a professional manner
• Apply knowledge of organization, communication, conflict resolution, and time management skills

Education

High School or GED equivalent
