Watco is seeking an Industrial Maintenance Supervisor who is skilled in leading teams, operating heavy equipment, and executing complex mechanical repairs with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and preventative maintenance. Proven ability to manage expenses, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure optimal performance of facility systems and equipment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Leading and directing a small team of maintenance technicians, assigning tasks, setting priorities, and monitoring their progress. 
  • Operate primarily heavy equipment including but not limited to conveyors, scraper systems, wheel loaders, motor graders and other similar mechanical and industrial machinery. 
  • Apply expert-level knowledge of mechanical work, welding and metal fabrication, and other industrial fields to service and repair equipment.
  • Follow and apply safety standards prioritizing quality and efficiency while working well independently or with others and demonstrating a sense of urgency and purpose.
  • Implement and maintain preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and equipment failures.
  • Escalate mechanical issues and complex maintenance issues to Port Superintendents, managers, and other required and relevant internal stakeholders as needed, in a timely manner.
  • Managing maintenance expenses and ensuring resources are used effectively and serve as a preventative maintenance resource to support our Houston Material Handling and Port divisions.
  • Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and analyze technical problems effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies; report potential safety hazards.
  • Overseeing the upkeep and performance of all facility systems, including machinery, equipment, and infrastructure. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must be able to pass and or obtain all reporting, testing, and certifications as required for this position. 

  • High School Diploma or general education development (GED)
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES

 

  • Minimum 5 years advanced-level experience in breakdown industrial and production maintenance preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of leadership experience is highly preferred
  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate a team, communicate clearly, and resolve conflicts
  • Extensive experience and expert proficiency in mechanics, conveyor systems, pneumatics, welding and metal fabrication, and commercial building maintenance and conveyor systems including the ability to troubleshoot.
  • Proficiency with tools and equipment used in maintenance tasks.
  • Proficient computer skills for data entry and record-keeping.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety practices in an industrial setting.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (bilingual in Spanish is a plus).
  • The ability to lift up to 75 pounds, stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist, perform repetitive motions, and climb and work from ladders.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

The role requires mobility and manual dexterity to navigate an industrial warehouse environment, including the use of standard office equipment. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in person and via radio or phone and have the vision to read various materials and inspect safety signs. Physical tasks include lifting to 50 pounds, using ladders and power tools, and performing fieldwork in various weather conditions while being exposed to noise, dust, and machinery.
