Watco Logistics LLC (Watco) is a unique non-asset Logistics Service Company that has found a niche for providing logistics services and coordination with an emphasis on container, air freight, customs brokerage, for packaged, project, dry bulk, break-bulk, and liquid cargoes. An Operations Manager - International, based in Houston, TX, has an opportunity to provide a meaningful contribution to the growth of the company. The local market is a customer rich environment and comes with a stable book of business to build upon. It will be critical for this leader to develop a team that both sells and operates services that create value for our customers, are complementary to existing Watco competencies. The Operations Manager – International position represents a leadership role within the Company.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED)
- Leadership and Supervision Responsibilities include training, scheduling, and managing through positive and negative turnover situations
- Gain a deep understanding of import and export business related to execution of NVOCC and IATA Transportation
- Evaluate, recommend, and establish or enhance standard operating procedures relations to day-to-day task of an NVOCC and IATA business
- Oversee pricing and quoting for ocean and Air Projects, which includes responding to RFP and RFQ type requests, as well as spot shipments, goal of maximizing profitability
- Develop operating budgets and forecasts based on based on activity reporting
- Ensure team performance to help support annual goals and objectives
- Help set the tone of the department to ensure service focus, morale, teamwork, and a positive culture
- Provide support to team members to help the growth and development of the branch
- Help manage operations and ensure operating procedures and protocols are followed
- Maintain customer, carrier, shipper, and team member professional relationships with consistent, effective, and prompt communication
- Create value for existing and new customers based on finding appropriate and creative solutions to transportation needs
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS & ABILITIES
- A 4-year college degree in a relevant field; or commensurate industry experience
- Transportation or supply chain related experience preferred
- Business development, personal training, sales knowledge, highway service knowledge, and operations experience preferred
- Use basic computer skills - Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, 10 Key, and Data Entry
- Utilize professional phone and email communication skills
- Apply knowledge of organization, communication, conflict resolution, project, personal management, and time management skills
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions
- Ability to provide oral and written reports, business correspondence, and effective presentation of information to customers, team members, and managers
- Capable of working independently and making decisions with limited supervision
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Support the growth and development of the branch by helping support the overall progression of the branch operationally
- Ability to work with others and be a positive influence on co-workers
