Job Summary
Pay: $70,000 annually
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 4:00 PM - 2:00 AM, with weekend coverage required at least once per month.

The Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring a safe working environment by identifying and addressing hazardous conditions, unsafe behaviors, and compliance gaps in daily operations. This role involves conducting audits, inspections, and safety observations, as well as leading training sessions, job briefings, and safety meetings. The specialist will collaborate with the Safety Manager, Terminal Manager, and operations teams to develop and implement effective safety procedures, investigate incidents, and promote a culture of safety. With a focus on hands-on, field-based work, this position plays a key role in maintaining compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company regulations while supporting the overall safety and environmental goals of the terminal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Support location leadership and operations team members in taking ownership of safety processes and initiatives
• Maintain and audit Job Safety Analysis (JSA) processes in collaboration with location leaders and team member specialists
• Conduct daily operational efficiency tests and safety observations to identify and correct potential hazards
• Partner with operations and safety teams to investigate and address team member concerns and suggestions
• Assist locations with incident investigations, reporting, and root cause analysis with an emphasis on prevention and continuous improvement
• Stay current on industry best practices and regulatory changes through research, self-study, seminars, and professional development
• Support the Safety Manager and Terminal Manager in planning and conducting emergency response drills and exercises with internal teams and external agencies
• Promote a strong safety culture by leading efforts to properly address workplace injuries and illnesses, ensuring medical providers remain objective and compliant with OSHA and company reporting requirements
• Lead, train, and participate in safety activities focused on identifying, mitigating, and eliminating unsafe conditions and behaviors across all operational areas
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and be able to pass and/or obtain all reporting, testing, and certifications as required for this position and location.
