Location Overview
The Elizabeth Marine Terminal is a vital intermodal hub located in Elizabeth, New Jersey, supporting both marine and overland freight movement in the greater New York metropolitan area. The terminal features 196 container storage spaces on the main pier and an additional 78 spaces on a secondary pad dedicated to empty containers. It includes two barge berths designated for active loading operations. Loaded containers are transferred via truck to rail yards, while empty containers are returned to the site by barge for reloading. The facility supports efficient multimodal operations using two Kuenz rail-mounted gantry cranes, a Taylor Reach Stacker, and a CAT 938 loader.
General Purpose
The Supervisor position is a front line leader at our Marine location in Elizabeth, NJ. As a Supervisor you will be
joining a well-established Team at a growing company where you will assist the Terminal Manager in the oversight of
the operation with safety and environment being the highest priorities next to financial stewardship.
Position Description
- Company Values – Supervisor is expected to support and promote the Customer First Foundation Principals.
- Regularly coach Team Members on the importance of these principals and how it relates to each Team
- Member.
- Supervision – Oversee a Team of Bosuns, Crane Operators and Ordinary Seamen. As part of those duties
- they will direct work activities, monitor team member attendance and vacation usage as well as create and
- adhere to a site-wide schedule.
- Customer Focus – Ensure customer satisfaction through operational excellence. Build strong customer
- relationships by actively participating in customer meetings and effective communication/coordination with
- customer at all times.
- Safety – Maintain and develop a culture of safety among all team members. Effectively lead safety briefings
- with Team on relevant topics. Routinely conduct Team Member efficiency testing.
- Training – Conduct and coordinate Team Members training to ensure the training matrix is accurate and up-
- to-date.
- Financial – Expected to be knowledgeable of all key functional areas that drive or have an impact to the
- facility and assets (operational, financial, environmental, etc.)
- Documentation – Complete all applicable documentation and recordkeeping as well as coordination with
- other departments. Participate in routine evaluation of SOPs to ensure accuracy and relevance.
- Performance Management – Evaluate Team Members throughout probation period. Regularly coach and
- correct Team Member behavior as needed. Assess disciplinary action consistently and fairly across the board
- and in a timely manner.

Skills, Abilities & Requirements
- Must be able to work with and lead a team, give and take direction as well as create and follow work rules, as well as, take on additional job responsibilities as needed or assigned
- Must maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance
- Ability to work outside majority of the time and withstand extreme weather conditions
- Flexibility required; ability to work days, nights, weekends when necessary
- Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Working knowledge of Watco Safety and Operating principles
- Follow written and verbal directions to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
- Read, write, and communicate in English & understand math for financial analysis.
- Learn from directions, observations, and mistakes and apply procedures using good judgment.
- Proficient in the MS Office Suite; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams
- Minimum 2 years supervisory/leadership experience preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent required · Valid driver's license Machine, Tools, Special Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment Used
- Required to wear all Personal Protective Equipment including, but not limited to uniform, steel toed boots, eye protection, hard hat, gloves, life vest, radio, etc.
- Operate a skid steer, crane, reachstacker, front end loader, man lift, truck, power tools and hand tools.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to bend, stoop, lift up to 50 pounds alone, twist, climb, etc. Must be able to talk and hear well enough to communicate with all Team Members, vendors, and customers 100% of the time. See below:
