Schedule: Typically M-F, 8 hour days, with possible overtime
Starting Pay: $27.75
After 90 Days: $29.38
After 180 Days: $32.65
Job Summary
The Material Handler Operator is responsible for safely operating a variety of heavy equipment to support daily transloading and site operations. Operators work both independently and collaboratively in outdoor environments under varying conditions to ensure smooth and reliable site performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule. First and second shift work will be required.
• Must be willing to work overtime hours during the week and/or weekends and holidays depending on the demands of the business
• Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions as majority of the time will be working outside
• Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Must be willing to obtain a TWIC card
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Must be willing to be called out
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Work with crews loading/unloading barges, trucks and railcars
• Operate a variety of equipment such as, but not limited to: excavator/cranes
• Diagnose problems and maintain equipment
• Assist in the transportation and movement of coal, salt, etc.
• Service and lubricate machines and equipment
• As directed, perform activities of co-workers
• Perform work area housekeeping functions and help in providing equipment maintenance to operational area and equipment as directed by supervision
• All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and be able to pass and/or obtain all reporting, testing, and certifications as required for this position and location. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Minimal of 2-3 years of experience operating equipment is strongly preferred
• Must show competency level and understanding with the type of equipment they are selected to operate by passing both classroom and field evaluation with satisfactory marks
• Must show familiarity with various cargo types and understand the hazards associated with them in regard to equipment, cargo, and pedestrian safety
• Valid Drivers license
• Past credentials for associated equipment are preferred but not required
