Hourly Pay Rate: $22.50 

Schedule: 12 hr Swing Shift, Days and Nights  

 

Job Summary

 

Watco's New Johnsonville Terminal handles primarily dry bulk products (petroleum coke, rock salt, and titanium ore) As a Deckhand, you will assist with removing and resetting barge covers, climbing in and out of barges, operating a skid steer to move materials, and railcar discharging.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Operate and maintain equipment including front-end loaders, skid steers, and barge-moving winch equipment
  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all terminal equipment
  • Perform daily preventative maintenance on equipment, including greasing, oiling, cleaning, checking and adding fluids, and inspecting air pressures. Document all maintenance activities
  • Help troubleshoot equipment problems and perform minor repairs as needed
  • Conduct general housekeeping duties such as cleaning, organizing, and inventorying supplies and equipment
  • Perform operational efficiency checks, keep records, and submit reports as required · Observe all safety and security procedures; report any potentially unsafe conditions
  • Use all equipment and materials properly and in accordance with company and safety guidelines
  • Take responsibility for the safety of the barge, ship, and all crew members, particularly during vessel movement and cargo handling
  • Follow directions and assist with tasks typically performed by co-workers when needed
  • Must be willing to work shifts and/or overtime during the week and weekends, as dictated by operational needs
  • Maintain regular attendance to properly perform the essential duties of the role
  • Ability to work outside majority of the time and withstand extreme weather conditions
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • General knowledge of tools and mechanical background
