Job Summary

The Commercial Marketing Strategist leads marketing strategy and execution in direct support of Watco’s Commercial organization, driving business growth through innovative, targeted, and strategically aligned marketing initiatives.

This role serves as the primary marketing partner to Watco’s commercial teams, bridging commercial objectives with compelling marketing campaigns, sales enablement tools, and asset-specific  collateral. The Strategist collaborates closely with commercial leadership and field sales teams across Rail, Ports & Terminals, and Logistics to understand business priorities and growth opportunities, craft differentiated messaging and translate insights into marketing strategies that promote Watco’s solutions and accelerate revenue growth.

The ideal candidate brings strong industrial and asset-based business acumen, a deep understanding of how marketing supports complex B2B sales, and the ability to leverage  data, insights, and AI enabled  tools to improve speed, relevance, and effectiveness of marketing deliverables. Experience in transportation, logistics, rail, and/or supply chain industries is highly preferred.

This role sits at the intersection of commercial strategy, sales execution, and modern marketing, directly influencing how Watco identifies opportunities, positions its assets, and wins business. The Commercial Marketing Strategist plays a critical role in accelerating growth by ensuring the right message reaches the right customer at the right time.

This position is based full time in Watco’s Overland Park, Kansas office and works closely with in person commercial and marketing teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary marketing partner to Watco’s Commercial organization, aligning marketing strategy directly with sales priorities and revenue growth objectives.
• Identify and capitalize on growth opportunities across railroads, terminals, properties, services, and other assets.
• Develop and execute innovative marketing initiatives, including: Strategic marketing campaigns, sales presentations and pitch materials, RFP and proposal responses, asset and location specific marketing collateral
• Collaborate with commercial leaders to uncover growth potential in target industries and drive awareness, engagement, and deal opportunities.
• Translate sales objectives into clear, actionable, and measurable marketing strategies, programs, and deliverables that support and accelerate revenue growth.
• Leverage AI enabled marketing tools to: Accelerate content development and customization, enhance messaging relevance and consistency, support research, insights generation, and campaign optimization, improve efficiency in proposal, presentation, and campaign development
• Partner closely with brand marketing and communications teams to ensure alignment, consistency, and high impact  execution.
• Lead the strategy and execution of Watco’s commercial presence at industry events, associations, and traffic clubs.
• Coordinate marketing support for memberships and sponsorships to enhance visibility and generate business opportunities.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, effectively prioritizing initiatives and problem solving to meet defined objectives, timelines, and performance outcomes.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in sales, marketing, or a hybrid commercial role, preferably within transportation, logistics, rail, or supply chain sectors.
• Strong commercial and sales acumen with a solid understanding of sales processes, deal development, and revenue drivers.
• Demonstrated expertise in marketing strategy, campaign development, and execution with measurable business impact.
• Ability to translate business goals into actionable, results driven  marketing solutions.
• Experience working cross functionally  with creative, communications, and brand teams to deliver integrated outcomes.
• Familiarity with marketing platforms, analytics tools, and AI enabled productivity or marketing solutions.
• Strong organizational, project management, and prioritization skills.

Education

Bachelor's degree
