This Staff Accountant position at Watco in Overland Park, KS, supports accounting functions at the corporate level. Initial responsibilities will be focused on fixed assets and intangibles, including completing journal entries, providing analysis and reconciliations, and preparing reports and schedules. The role is part of a team that handles a variety of responsibilities that provide the opportunity to expand a candidate’s knowledge base in accounting practices. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in accounting, 1 to 3 years of relevant experience, strong Microsoft Excel skills, and is excited to learn and grow in their role.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Prepare reports, schedules, and variance analysis for management review
  • Assist in monthly, quarterly, and year-end close procedures
  • Assemble monthly and quarterly rollforward and reconciliation packages
  • Prepare standard and adjusting journal entries
  • Effectively perform and communicate analysis on reports, schedules, accounts, and transactions
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with appropriate GAAP standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices
  • Prepare audit and tax schedules relating to fixed assets and intangibles
  • Assist with inquiries related to fixed asset reporting and other assigned areas
  • Develop, monitor, and update processes for improved accounting and operational functions
  • Provide assistance with miscellaneous projects as needed

 

Education and Experience

 

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting is required
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant accounting experience
  • Excellent computer skills, especially in Microsoft Excel
