Position Description

 

  • To adhere to all Watco policies and procedures
  • To understand the Watco Materials Services Core Values:  Safety, Quality, Efficiency and Honesty
  • To participate in daily Safety / Quality Talks
  • To report any / all incidents and/or near misses
  • To properly greet and communicate with all visitors
  • To comply with training given to use business internet applications appropriately
  • To physically make repairs and service equipment.
  • Operate equipment as needed.
  • To understand and comply with all requirements for any emergency
  • Position is responsible for performing scheduled maintenance on all equipment.
  • Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, including rolling stock and plant equipment, as needed.
  • Maintains equipment by performing preventive maintenance, i.e.: lubricating, cleaning, adding gear lubricants, changing filters, and documents all activity performed Complete applicable maintenance records as required and work following all Company procedures and Regulatory standards
  • Receive direction from the Shift Supervisor and Terminal Manager.
  • Uses hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring and testing instruments to troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform mechanical repairs on terminal equipment.
  • Repairs could include, but are not limited to: Welding, fabrication, heavy equipment repairs of all types, cranes, lifts, loaders, brakes, alternators, wiring harnesses, hydraulics, engine repair, etc.
  • Organize and maintain the work area to gain maximum efficiency and productivity in terms of time, tools, and equipment.
  • Execute work orders and associated paperwork.
  • Maintain manual and electronic record keeping as required.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
  • Willingness to perform “ANY” other duties as assigned.  Examples - but not limited to the operation of a lift truck, front-end loader, conveyor, sweeper, tractor or other mobile equipment, tally, clean up, barge shifting, climbing on and off barges, rail cars and trucks, barge winch operations, etc.
  • Regularly communicate via 2-way radio with Supervisors and Team Members
  • Follow written and verbal instructions to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
  • Read, write, and communicate in English & understand basic math.
  • Learn from directions, observations, and mistakes, and apply procedures using good judgment.

 

Machines, Tools, Special Equipment,  Personal Protective Equipment Used

 

  • All types of mechanical and electrical tools.
  • PPE; hard hat, vest, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots.

 

Requirements

 

  • General shop management and organizational experience. Previous supervisory experience in a general repair shop is preferred.
  • Direct other teammates assigned to assist
  • High school education or general education diploma (GED). (or equivalent experience)
  • Willingness to accept the responsibility of maintaining all the functional aspects of the mechanical shop, maintaining service records, parts inventory, and pm schedul
  • To appropriately perform the essential duties of this job, regular work attendance is required.
  • Preferred - Working knowledge and repair experience on life trucks, loaders, skid steers, conveyors, cranes, vehicles, etc.
