Description

 

Roadmaster is directly responsible for maintenance of a railroad and its track assets to ensure safe passage of trains. 

 

Qualifications 

 

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Have 5 years of track maintenance experience.
  • Have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Able to pass WATCO background check requirements
  • Obtain a TWIC card for location entry access
  • Pass drug and alcohol tests
  • Possess great flexibility to adapt in a changing work environment.
  • Proficient in computer-based record keeping, track charts, spreadsheets, Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint, etc.
  • Willing to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
  • Flexibility regarding working hours in case of call outs.
  • Willingness to work independently without supervision
  • Able to report to work location within a 90-minutes notice
  • Available 24/7/365.
  • Demonstrate in the field inspection test
  • Understand FRA 213, 214, 219 standards
  • Pass WATCO RWP/GCOR/RWIC Exam
  • Pass WATCO Track System Safety Standards Exam
  • Pass WATCO CWR Exam
  • On-call responsibilities are an essential function of this job. Employees must have the ability and willingness to support operations of critically important systems and/or processes 24 hours per day/7 days per week. On-call assignments may include after-hours, weekends, and holidays.Physically inspect projects with direct reports to ensure quality work and accurate estimates.

 

Responsibilities 

 

  • Ensure that safety policies and procedures are being followed and enforced based on WATCO/FRA regulations.
  • Ensures FRA 213, FRA 214 and FRA 219 standards, testing, and inspection requirements are met.
  • Develop strategic safety plans for improvement YOY through a reduction in incident severity, frequency, and type.
  • Mentoring, teaching, training and surveillance of Inspectors, Foreman, and support personnel
  • Provide overall management of Railroad & Capital projects in terms of labor requirements, material requirements, delivery of materials, scheduling, equipment utilization and work in progress. 
  • Develop and provide plans for future development of the track department.
  • Manage the effective utilization of manpower, equipment, vehicles, and track materials to insure both quality and quantity of work being performed.
  • Schedule and supervise all third-party activities including, but not limited to Watco tie and surfacing gangs, rail detection, bridge inspections, weed spray, signal maintenance etc.
  • Maintain written procedures for all field personnel to use as guidelines for qualifications, wages, training, Track standards, inspection, maintenance and repair of all internal track, ties, rail, switches, frogs’ crossovers, crossings, etc. that are based on sound and proven track maintenance methods in WATCO policies and applicable regulations.
  • Meets with FRA as required to receive feedback regarding track conditions.
  • Ensures compliance with all Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Monitor Emaint to ensure FRA track inspection records & compliance are up to date and being followed as described in the regulation
  • Track and monitor specified quantitative data points for weekly/monthly reporting meetings with Division Engineering Superintendent.
  • Track material cost to ensure maintenance department follows set budgetary requirements
  • Other duties may be assigned.
