Job Overview:

The Operations Coordinator (OC) orchestrates and oversees daily barge fleet operations and is responsible for tracking and reporting all inbound/outbound movements, researching barge position information and determine load/unloading schedules. Other tasks and responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Planning, coordinating and managing inland barge movements of industrial dry bulk, liquid bulk chemicals, steel and breakbulk cargoes
• Positioning barges according to the shippers’ respective needs and provide the ships’ ETA
• Tracking barges along the river system and communicating their positions on regular basis to shippers and client terminal locations, etc.
• Coordinating tow schedules, tracking loading and unloading activities; midstream-in/midstream-out.
• Release barges back to barge lines upon completion.
• Audit and vet barge freight, demurrage and process all related invoices

Job Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Transportation or Logistics
• Work experience in transportation or related field; familiar with basic logistics, ship, barge and terminal operations. 
• Strong computer skills required: Outlook, Excel, Word. Experience with ERP systems (example AX, SAP) is useful.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently on multiple issues 
• Results-oriented with a high sense of urgency
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to exercise creativity
• Detail oriented with the ability to enter and report data accurately
• Ability to work after normal business hours when necessary
