Job Summary
The Rail Logistics Specialist of Watco Logistics is responsible for the overall “day to day” operational and tactical aspects of multiple or large-scale projects. It is essential for the Rail Operations Manager to plan, execute, and finalize projects according to deadlines and budget. This position has various responsibilities including, acquiring resources, coordinating with the team on project progress, and ensuring third party contractors or consultants deliver projects according to plan.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Define project objectives and oversee quality control of the project life cycle
• Establish contracts with vendors to obtain information about future vendor developments in functional area
• Participate in outside professional activities to maintain knowledge on developments in the industry
• Ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget and communicate to ensure needs are being met
• Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress
• Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs meeting the company’s financial plan
• Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques such as Mavenlink and make sure they are updated at all times
• Manage the day-to-day tasks of operations team members
• Recruit necessary operations team members based on project needs
• Train, coach, and counsel operations team members
• Manage customer, third party vendors, and contractors’ relationships
• Perform risk management to minimize project risks
• Provide daily updates to customers during rail transit
• Oversee all rail clearances and review securement drawings
• Complete rail portion of Project Execution Plans (PEP)
• Review and confirm all rail routes
• Complete waybill form and provide to the Rail Coordinator for execution
• Ensures that project status, issues and successes are communicated to project team, customer and management and documented appropriately
