Job Summary
The primary purpose of the Assistant Terminal Manager position is to support the operations and business management of the facility, including safety oversight, environmental compliance, operational leadership, and P&L management support. This position provides visible, hands-on leadership in daily terminal activities while assisting with resource planning, team development, performance monitoring, and overall operational execution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead, train, mentor, and develop a high-performing team while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Promote and model Watco’s Foundation and Customer First Principles, maintaining professionalism and effective communication across all levels
• Serve as a visible, hands-on leader in the field to guide daily operations and ensure alignment with company objectives
• Model and enforce compliance with all Watco safety rules, company procedures, and applicable regulations
• Assist in managing terminal operations to optimize resources, schedules, and staffing to meet customer needs
• Participate in and lead safety meetings, job briefings, audits, safe observations, and efficiency testing; empower team members to stop unsafe actions and correct issues immediately
• Monitor facility and equipment maintenance needs; coordinate repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance planning
• Support ongoing review of operational KPIs and implement process improvements to drive performance
• Assist with P&L management including budget support, cost control, invoice review, and monitoring financial performance
• Review billing and invoicing to ensure contractual compliance, accuracy, and proper revenue capture
• Participate in capital planning, cost-saving initiatives, and operational improvement strategies
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships; participate in customer meetings and ensure service excellence
• Maintain accurate documentation, records, training logs, and compliance reporting
• Ensure team members receive proper onboarding, training, and ongoing development; monitor performance and address corrective actions when necessary
• Collaborate with corporate departments to ensure smooth administrative and operational workflows
• Assume full Terminal Manager responsibilities during absences, including safety and financial reporting calls
• Maintain flexibility to work varying schedules, including nights, weekends, and on-call as business needs require
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and be able to pass and/or obtain all reporting, testing, and certifications as required for this position and location. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Valid Driver’s License required
• Minimum of 2 years of operational leadership experience required
